Javier and I got our food and sat down at one of the tables at Wendy's. The place was empty except for a hispanic guy who was sitting over by the window. After Javier and I had been talking for a while I noticed the guy by the window was the same guy who's order I had taken earlier in the day at McDonalds. He slouched in his Discount Auto Parts uniform. He was overweight and his rosy cheeks looked like he was puffing them up with air. I asked him if he remembered me, and we began to talk.
His name was Carlos.
He said he was waiting for his woman to get off work. He started telling about his day and then he went on to tell us about his life. Hearing that his boss had made him cry earlier on in the day, I knew that this 31 year old man had an extremely soft heart. Since Wendys was closing we went outside and talked some more. We asked him what was holding him back from seeking God in his life. He pondered this question but didn't give an answer. We also asked him what one thing in the world could give him true happiness and fulfillment. He was about to say something but then thought for a while longer and said "God." Javier went and Got Carlos a small pocket sized Bible that his mom had given him a few days earlier.
We bowed are heads an Carlos asked the Lord to come into his heart.
As Javier and I prayed for him he made excited exclamations of "Amen" and "Hallelujah." Then as we were about to leave he said something that made Javier and I stop. "I know one of the things that's holding me back from experiencing God. The woman that I said I was waiting for, well...she's kinda.....married. It took me a while to respond. I'm not sure what I said, but I asked him if it would be cool if I prayed for him.
Then as we said goodbye and were pulling out, Carlos got in his mini-van and drove off without seeing the woman he had been waiting for.
